My Tumblr turned 3 today! Woo.
"We read five words on the first page of a really good novel and we begin to forget that we are reading printed words on a page; we begin to see images."
"I admire anybody who has the guts to write anything at all."
Cath “tarred and sweatered.” Fangirl, pg. 91
Indicidentaly, also a common “uniform” for me in college. Except the leg warmers. I’ve never been brave enough for leg warmers, though I’ve always wanted to be.
I devoured Fangirl on my snowday… I just loved it!
This book really took me back to a specific time in my life. Cath reminds me a lot of myself when I first went to college. I practically lived on Easy Mac, Wheat Thins, and granola bars for about three weeks during my Freshman year because I didn’t want to go to the dining hall alone. Also, I was pretty terrified of everyone on campus, and tried my best to be noticed by no one.
Thankfully, I managed to find my own stride… eventually.
And… I love this illustration, it’s exactly what I see when Levi tells her she looks “tarred and sweatered.”
Meanwhile, in the tundra that is Ohio… snow rollers! Nature’s magical snowballs.
Today was one of those perfectly lazy days. I went to church, read my newest book, took a nap, watched the new Sherlock and Downton Abbey, got a little tipsy, snuggled with my husband and kitten, and ate some fabulous chocolate.
Then, to make this day even better…. I woke up from my nap to a text from the university which me know that we have snow-days on Monday AND Tuesday. There honestly aren’t many things better than grown-up snow-days! Who doesn’t love to get paid to sleep in and lounge around the house all day?
This is my idea of what all Sundays should be like.
These little gems came in the mail yesterday. I’ve got the ‘bookstore’ scent going now… and my house smells quite nice.
I think I’ve ascended to a new level of nerd now that my house smells nerdy.
My husband was just offered his first academic book contract! He’s pretty much over the moon and he’s been in full-on philosophical mode (not that he has many other modes) since he was sent the contract earlier today.
I love my philosopher-scholar-author-husband. Smart is most definitely sexy.
My poor brain…
“I have insinuated diversity in the community by my environmental activities. I often use insecticide to get rid of insects in the house. Inevitably this activity has drifted the population of the insects. Before I draw down the curtains, I definitely reinstate that I have created diversity in my community.”
I can’t even… I honestly have no idea why this even exists. I don’t think he even knows how words work.
Just picked this up this evening… time to go snuggle up on the sofa and dive in to my new book.
Olive is nuts. She was chasing snowflakes while we were at the in-laws over break.
Also, keep in mind she was dangling for a good 30 seconds before I grabbed the camera.
Good morning, Tumblr! I think it’s time to go caffeinate myself.
My cat just stole a cashew… and then ate it.
Add this to the top of the list of weird things Olive has eaten. Bizarre little kitten.
We finally made it up to Loganberry Books… it looks like the bookstores in my dreams. It’s very deceptive from the outside, seemingly very tiny. Once you step through the doors, though… *gasp*
You can tell that the people who work there truly love to read… all of the featured books and groupings where amazing and thoughtfully put together. My reading list grew exponentially while I was there.
Overall, this place was the perfect place to spend my snow day. :)
Oh my… this was lunch and dinner. I’ve wanted to try Happy Dog for awhile and it was awesome! Our tater tots might look normal, but there are bourbon backed beans and pimento mac and cheese under there. Yum. And the hot dogs… You get to choose from about 40 toppings… such a fun concept.
